How To

How to drive a nails in wood

To drive a nail into wood, the first step is to select the right size and type hammer. The most popular types of hammers include claw hammers as well as mallets and ball peenhammers. Each type of tool has its advantages and drawbacks. A clawhammer works best when hitting something hard like nails. However, it can sometimes be difficult to see exactly where the strike is going. A sledgehammer is great for hitting large areas at once, but it's too heavy to use effectively for smaller tasks.

After selecting the right hammer, you will need to place your hand flat against one side of the head. The handle should rest comfortably in your hands. Grab the handle tightly, but do not squeeze too hard. You should hold the hammer straight-up, with your wrist still relaxed. Next, swing the hammer toward the ground and aim for the nail's center. You should feel the impact of your hammer hitting the nail. Try practicing with a block to help you master the art of swinging a stick.

When you're ready to start driving the nail, hold the hammer in front of you close to your body. You will need to position the nail so it is parallel to the wood. Keep your focus on the tip of each nail. Swing the hammer forward, then follow through with the motion of the hammerhead. You can repeat this several times, increasing your swing speed. Once you have mastered this technique, increase the power of your swings. Then, raise the hammer from your shoulder to bring it down. You will be able to use more energy and put your best foot forward.

Once you've nailed the first hole, remove the hammer from the nail. To pull out the remaining nails, use a screwdriver or pry bar. Keep the nail heads parallel to the board's surfaces in order to avoid splitting wood.
